Symbols of Realm Travels in Historic Christian Art works & Writings

The hand clasps depicted in weddings, in some cases, may also symbolize the union of family members from different realms being joined together, thus families with those of the faithful family member who die, would return back to that heavenly home after their pilgrimages on the earth. Thus, they are reunited in these sort of heavenly family reunions, perhaps symbolized in the joining of families together in wedding hand clasping ceremonies. (Thus, these types of things are part of the inspiration behind part of the introductions to the CD's first song: War's Ghost's Complaint!; especially the part in reference to the science fictional family reunions between family members of the mortal world, being visited by the spirits of departed loved ones, that can be seen and heard through the use of futuristic Spirit Cameras! Inventions that perhaps may one day be invented or discovered in the near, or distant future, which inventions may one day make these sorts of things possible. The introduction in the first song also helps set up the settings for some of the other songs that follow, such as (Another Ghostly complaint): Why Aren't All Nations Free?; & I Need a Sanctuary. All ghostly 'white noise' dramatizations thus done in outrageous, & at times, mellow dramatized spooky fun. They're not to be taken seriously as being real ghosts' voices caught on recording devices or spirit cameras).

The descent into hell is mentioned in the New Testament, & expounded upon by the earliest to later Christians, & it is found in many religious documents, poems, songs, legends, & traditions, & earlier creeds. It was depicted in numerous art works, on monuments, stone carvings, book designs, illumination manuscripts, and in glass windows. It was also dramatized in numerous mystery plays, and rituals throughout Christian history. Christ's descent into hell made it possible for the dead to be able to live again through the resurrection, and be set free from the bonds of death. Thus, some of the lines in Covert Cosmic Cruisers' 1st music CD song, Be Free, Break Free, hints to these sorts of things. That of God going down into hell, freeing the captive spirits held there, and eventually being able to "change hell's scenery, into greenery!"

These types of lyrics, about God having all of eternity, or endless amounts of time to wait for, or encourage, or have a major part in helping change eternal beings, who had freely chosen to not follow his teachings, and universal laws of love. Beings who had once been good, but who had fallen, would, or could eventually, in the endless eons of time, be helped, & rescued by angelic guides! For eventually they might, could, and will pay attention to, and follow God's angelic guides, who would show them ways they could get out of their own particular prisons in whatever realms they wander in, as "restless spirits." Why? Because God's love for all his creations & "the generations" in the "heavenly family,ii his spirit children, scattered throughout the cosmos, is, and always will be boundless and endless!iii

Thus, these Godly angelic missionaries, and guides, being able to eventually free, deliver, rescue, & help cause to repent, those who have been rebellious against God. Plus, those beings themselves, finally being sick of doing what they do, and really wanting to change, could, & do! Thus, those beings in the different realms, that many religionists & others might think are "un-save-able," they too are able to be set free too, despite the mission impossibilities of this happening, especially in the minds of many religionists that don't know, or care to know, and accept the earlier Christian concepts about the harrowing of hell, and Christ's, and his angelic guides', and apostles' descent into hell to preach the gospel to those rebellious against it; or to those there, or in other realms, who may never have hear about it. Plus, to those where-ever humanity could be found, in order to preach to, and rescue them!

Thus, the lyrics to some of our songs are derived from these types of concepts, such as the early Christian apologists Origen. Even though he got in trouble with his fellow Christians, especially in later centuries, for believing and expounding upon the unthinkable concept that even the bright angelic beings of God who had become the fallen angels who rebelled against God, and caused a war in heaven; and who were thrust out of heaven away from God; even they could eventually, at least many of them, if not all, would or could repent, change their ways, and thus be redeemed by the atonement of Christ! This of course was not a popular belief in historic Christianity, and Origen got thrashed by later Christians for expounding on this.iv

However, back to the lyrics, this concept of God being able to change hell's scenery into greenery, is also inspired by what the former Atheist, Howard Storm says he learned from the angels in his Near Death Experience:v Storm says that: "the worst that evil can do in this world, the very worst thing it can do is to keep a person from God, but God's not ever going to allow that to happen because everybody's going to end up with God, sooner or later. God's got a lot of time. If a person fails in a lifetime, they might have another life experience or they might live in another world or they might live in another dimension or they might spend 50 billion years in heaven learning from the angels themselves. There are endless numbers of levels of learning & this is just one of them, so if a person doesn't learn here, they may learn some place else or they may learn differently here. God has got the whole situation in hand. You do your best, but you've got to trust God..."

Thus, Storm has expressed here some concepts that are like unto some of the things that some of the early Christians believed, for example: Origen, who may have been influenced by his teacher Clement of Alexandria; thought & wondered, if even the devil & his fallen angels could eventually be saved in the process of and endless eternity of time. Origen seemed to have believed also that Christ's atonement also included the sins of the fallen angels, & thus they might even one day be able to come back, despite how deep their fall may have been. Though such beliefs were not shared by to many other Christians, the question was considered in the early century of Christianity.vi

Storm seemed to suggest that there may be some souls that will retrogress for years away from God, & away from any light & love that they may have once known & enjoyed. But that in some point in their existence they may become so tired of their hate, & their bitterness, & situation, etc., that they may finally turn around & attempt to find their way back towards God after having wandered for endless ages.

And do you think that a loving God is going to turn them away? And when that happens, He'll be there to pick them up, to receive them with open arms, to welcome them back home (Luke 15:3-32).

Storm: "ÉIf a person is cruel & loveless throughout this world & they die & go in the spiritual, where are they going to go? Are they just suddenly going to be transformed into loving, higher angelic beings? No, that's not who they are, so they get to do what? They get to live that out." Until they out grow it, or get sick of their own hate. "God allows cruel people to live in a world of darkness & cruelty & separateness from God, & theoretically sometimes they are going to outgrow that. How long will that take? How long does God have? They can be there a billion, trillion, zillion years. He'll wait. And the minute they say, "I'm tired of hurt. I'm tired of hate. I'm tired of loneliness. I need someone to love me." God is going to be right there with an angelic being of light whose going to pick him up in his arms, just like he did me, & take him home.... I don't know about God finding someone so unworthy that He would have to never let him back. That's inconceivable. It doesn't fit into my system. It's possible, because God can do whatever He wants us to do. But I think sooner or later, everyone's going to find their way back to Him--hopefully. Someone told me everyone will get to Heaven, some kicking & screaming, but everyone will get to Heaven."vii

Now this concept, of course is going to shock many religionists, who hold to their own particular beliefs that everyone else who doesn't follow their own particular brand & interpretations of 'scripture,' or who don't belong to their particular religious sect, will be "eternally damned forever!" Despite how some of these might react, it's some concepts that has been dramatized in our lyrics of our songs, and shouldn't be interpreted as saying that we expect everyone to believe, and except it all, for we don't expect to change others beliefs. It's just a dramatization of what others believe, which are interesting to consider.

The descent is also based on the historic Christians' beliefs that mortals who had lived in different times & area of the world, died and went to the realms of the spirits, could eventually be given opportunities in the after life realms to hear "the gospel," preached to them by Christ, his apostles & angelic guides. If, however, they did have the chance but were once disobedient and thus went to the "spirit prison," and upon hearing it again, and repenting, and living according to God in the spirit, they would eventually be released, resurrected, and guided over into paradise, having been redeemed from their sins by Christ who descended, in many cases, with his angels too, into hell, limbo, hades, purgatory, the underworld, the abyss, the pit, & or under the ground, as that realm was called and believed to be located.

Historic Christian artists had to decide which moments in the whole drama they wanted to depict, thus some artists showed the following moments of Christ's post crucifixion other realm journey and victory march to set free souls.

  1. Christ kicking the doors of hades.
  2. The doors, as they began to fall.
  3. After they had fallen.
  4. As Christ defeats, & stands on the doors, & on the under-world demonic-monsters.
  5. The moment when the captive spirits came forth to greet Christ.
  6. When Adam reaches forth his hand to clasp Christ's hand.
  7. Different types of hand & wrist grasps, (symbolic of their resurrection & escape to freedom!).
  8. When Christ begins to turn.
  9. Having turned, he act as a guide. Thus, in a later moment during the descent, Christ has turned and is in the act of guiding a newly resurrected person, by grasping, with his right hand, the person's right hand.
  10. At the moment when they began to ascend up towards paradise.
  11. Christ presenting the liberated to his Mother.
  12. As Christ and the liberated entered through the doors of paradise.
  13. As he brings them to God the Father.

For many early to later Christians, baptism was a type of Christ's descent into the spirit prison, for after having been anointed, they became an anointed one, or in a symbolical way, a "Christ". After which they descended down into the baptismal waters as a type of how Christ had descended into the spirit prison, thus, in some cases, they were baptized as if they were in the spirit prison.viii

Saint Peter wrote that there was an answer that the earliest Christians could give to the charges raised by early anti-Christians who had spoken evil against them. Some of the early critics charged that Christianity was new and therefore could not have been able to have saved any body in pre-Christian times. The answers to this charge and others was that Christ had descended into the spirit prison to preached the gospel there too.
